Happiness of a gift

It was Thanksgiving last week and anywhere I went, I heard the following “The season of gifts is on”. I started thinking about which gift has left an impact on my mind. It brought back a lot of memories still I was unable to zero down on any particular event. But yesterday while wandering through a mall, I came accross a section of Rayban sunglasses.

Rayban products always remind me of my father. Baba never left house without his sunglasses. He was a lifetime Rayban user. When I was in final year of college, his sunglasses broke in an accident. He was very upset. I told him to wait till I start earning. I still remember the first diwali after I started earning. I told him “It’s gift time for you”. His response was “Yes, I will go ahead and check the Rayban collection”. After that whenever he left house, his sunglasses were always with him. Everytime he wore it, I felt so happy that I could gift him something which is a part and parcel of his identity. Truely he made me feel proud of my gift. It was the same model as one below.

Every add talks about making the receiver of gifts happy but few ever mention anything about the giver. The happiness of a gift lies in making both the giver and receiver happy. The gift of Rayban sunglasses is most memorable because it not only made the receiver glad but also the giver happy. With the festive season on, let us make it a point to make every person, who gifts us, happy. That the gift they gave us is really important and will be an important part of our day-to-day life.

In a bus on friday evening…

Today we have become isolated, thanks to radio in our cell phones. Very few of us bother to hear the conversation going on around us while we are travelling in buses or trains. On seeing today’s prompt, I couldn’t hellp writing about this conversation somehow. This happened on my way home in the bus between a girl and a boy on a friday evening. From their conversation, it seemed they were working in the same project.

Girl: Finally the week is over.

Boy: Yes. I am so tired that I think I will doze off the moment I reach home.

Girl: I wish I could do the same but my roomie just loves to gossip.

Boy: Why do you listen? You can always go to sleep.

Girl: You don’t understand gossip is such a thing that I can’t resist. You must be having long sound sleep on weekends since you guys don’t gossip.

Boy: Not exactly. My roomie enjoys watching action movies on friday night. He generally gets the best of those and I can’t help watching them with him.

Girl: Then how do you manage dinner?

Boy: Oh we generally order pizza late night.

Girl: What about those calories?

Boy: Another roomie of mine is a footballer and he drags us for a game and thus we lose all that we put on. How do you manage those calories?

Girl: Oh my roomie loves to go for shopping and so we end up exploring a mall every weekend. Sometimes we also go for a movie. But then we walk a lot in the mall.

Boy: My stop has come. Have a nice weekend.

Girl: Same to you. See you on monday morning.

Generally people are on a holiday mood on Fridays. Therefore even if they plan to sleep the end up staying awake late. The best part of the conversation was both the boy and the girl stayed up late because of their roomies. Let me know if you happen to have the same experience.

As part of today’s assignment, I was to explore the blogging world. While I was going through the blogs, the most attractive ones were the travel blogs. The first thing that stuck me was they were all based on the thought “Follow your heart”. These were mostly people working in corporate sector and taking up travelling like http://thesoulshines.wordpress.com/about/. In olden days it was said, there is nothing more satisfying than travelling. These were the people who had ventured to distant lands and had gained vast knowledge. The fact seems to hold true even today.

Some new strangers on the way.

Some new strangers on the way.

When you travel you never know what you may discover. The best moments are those when a stranger smiles at you or you can become a part of their festivity without knowing their language something like http://edbourke.net/2013/08/01/monastiraki-street-party/. To some extent travelling with your near and dear ones brings you closer to them http://theadventuresofadr.com/2013/11/15/were-leaving-traveling-the-states-on-the-american-railways/. Life is not a bed of roses.Travelling comes with its own troubles. First you cant be shopping too much as you are travelling. You may face some weather hazards like http://quitealone.com/2013/12/08/snow-jordan/. You may have to walk to rough lands to catch that breathtaking sunrise http://harindabama.com/2013/07/29/the-unforgiving-rinjani/ but then when you see the sunrise all your effort is rewarded. You may even discover some new cuisines to add to your kitchen. As you travel your mind opens up.

For all those who are planning to take that much awaited trip, just make your resolution. It is not easy to go for a long trip, therefore start with small weekend trips and then plan for the bigger ones.
