Introduction to Art

This weekend I had an opportunity to meet a painter Nispruha Desai. Her enthusiastic about travelling is infectious. But unlike most travelers, she shares her experiences through her paintings. Each of her paintings reflects her ability to notice exceptional things. Although all her paintings left me speechless, the ones which remained in my heart are the ones depicting monsoon. The painter had spent her childhood and youth in India. There everyone waits for monsoon. As soon as the first showers occur, everything seems to become fresh. People going around with colorful umbrellas is an amazing sight. All these memories are captured in her paintings. The colors are so vibrant that the effect is different in various volumes of lights. Her work is not only present in canvas but also on tables, lamp, etc. Her work covers both traditional and modern art. I was surprised to learn her painting exhibitions are conducted in Monroeville public library, which I visit regularly.

She simply inspired me to follow my passions. There is a huge misinterpretation of retirement. It is generally associated with following a uniform routine. But I learnt it is the time to go back to ones childhood and pursue all the hobbies which had got shelved. This meet turned out to be highly educational for me, as I learnt to look and understand modern art. Let us take some time from the daily grind of life and identify the colors of life. If possible let us express it someway. The results will help us discover ourselves. I hope to see many more works of Nispruha(Nipu) Desai. My best wishes are with her.

A date with snow

Every year as december approaches all the movie channels show movies around christmas. As a child I used to dream about seeing snowfall. I had been at tourist places covered with snow but somehow I wanted to see how it started.

Early morning rains

Early morning rains

It was 26th nov’2014. It was chilly with temperature at 5 degree celcius. Further it was raining but there was something different about it. The water was way too cold. Slowly we saw snow flakes falling with water. After a few minutes, there was no water only snow. I couldn’t resist standing out. The snow kept on falling. Soon everything seemed to be covered with a nice white sheet.

Snow covering everything

Snow covering everything

Although it was cold, still me and my roomie went out for a walk. Standing under the trees with snow everywhere around I remembered the following lines:

Under the greenwood tree
who loves to lie with me
and tune his merry note
unto the greenbird’s throat

A snow covered tree

A snow covered tree

A snow covered roof

A snow covered roof

There are times when we dream and just keep it aside thinking it may never come true. I think sometimes they come true and when they do we are so happy that we forget to thank almighty. Let us remember how many of our dreams have come true and thank God. If there is any that is yet to be fulfilled, don’t lose hope, you never know when it may come true.

How my boring bus ride became interesting

I was coming from Mumbai to Pune. It takes around 4-5 hours due to traffic in mumbai. Once you are out of mumbai, the mumbai-pune expressway is just too good. The bus passes through lonavala. I was as usual sitting in the bus fiddling with my cellphone which was running short of battery.

I didn’t realize we had reached lonavala. All of a sudden the bus stopped. We all looked up. After 15 minutes someone came and said, something went wrong, it is being repaired. We all got down from the bus. It was monsoon and lonavala was at its best. The clouds falling over the mountains was just mesmerising. There was a beautiful fog. I realised what a beautiful scene I was missing. Today we have become so accustomed to our gadgets that we just ignore the simple beauties of life. I gave up all the worries, kept my cellphone inside the bag and began to enjoy the ride. A little way further, the bus stopped at a restaurant. In that beautiful cloudy, foggy yet breezy weather, I had onion fries and a cup of steaming hot tea. There was a small bookshop there. As I was going through the books, my eyes fell on a book “Anything for you, mam”. I bought it and began reading. It was a cute, urban love story set in the backdrop of engineering college. The book made my ride even more enjoyable.

After coming home, I couldn’t help writing a review on that book. But I would’nt have enjoyed the ride so much had the bus not stopped. As murphy’s law states “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”. We must accept this and learn to thank anything and everything that happens.

Shocked by a honk on a lonely road

On the way to Buffalo

On the way to Buffalo

Part I:

Once when I was in Dallas, on a certain weekend, me and 5 of my friends planned a trip to washington and Buffalo. It was the month of July and climate was pretty hot. The iternary was to fly to washington, do sight seeing and then drive overnight to buffalo, explore the Niagra falls and fly back to Dallas from buffalo.

As planned, we completed all our work on friday and flew from Dallas on Friday night. We reached Washington on Friday night, stayed at a motel and started on saturday morning. We walked a lot and loved seeing all the buildings. Towards the evening we came close to Lincoln memorial. We climbed the steps and went inside. It was beautiful. As we came down from the steps, it started raining slowly. We thought we will wait till rain stops and then walk till our cars. But the rains had other plans and it started raining heavily. We again climbed the steps to the memorial. There we spent 2 hours. Finally the rains stopped and we started walking towards our cars. The rains had left a cool breeze and everyone seemed to enjoy the walk. We had dinner at one of the restaurants and then we started driving towards Buffalo.

We reached Buffalo in the morning. After a quick breakfast we thought we will freshen up in a motel and then go to visit the Niagra. We roamed and roamed but somehow we were unable to find a motel. The roads were also lonely so we were unable to ask any directions to anyone. Suddenly we heard a honk by a cop car. This left us shocked…
